Final - Character Design

For my final assignment, I decided to draw a character which combine dragon, lizard and chameleon

.But when I color my character, i add thorn to the back of dragon n feel like hedgehog .For the tail part i make it to 3 and it start look like a fish tail when i color it)

So, back to the character.At first i sketch out my dragon and keep adding stuff until it form the shape that i want.

FRONT VIEW

this is the final sketch of my "dragon"

erm.....forget to screenshot the process when i start color it...

okay..i add short teeth instead of the long and sharp teeth like normal dragon

so, here is my dragon, i already color almost all the part and easier for me

 to start adding detail, the back of "dragon" is empty because I'm not satisfied to the previous

 design when i color it .

then, I change my design and add thorn as the back of the "dragon"

adding more thorn and also connect the last tail part of the dragon.

Keep touch up by add shading and thicken the body part so it can connect to the wing

Finally i paint the eyes part n touch up a bit the part around the eyes

Add texture to the wing 

Since I forget to screenshot some part, these are the close up shot of  my "dragon"

BACK VIEW

For the back view , i flip my "dragon" as the reference and sketch out the form first then I arrange it part by part.But for the back I cannot just copy and arrange so i add more thorn to make it more natural.

CHARACTER WITH BACKGROUND

I use this picture that I found in google as my background. I modified it a bit so it look more suit to my character.

 i add some light green color to the background so it look like more fantasy and add light to the top of the picture

adjust the brightness of my character and change my position of the reflection

darken a bit the reflection

Atmospheric perspective

I choose a photo as a reference and paint it layer by layer

so this is the first layer

Portrait

okay , this time we have to paint a portrait in comic style and realistic style

Comic Style:

First, i trace the face using AI and copy into Photoshop for painting

start adding the base color and different tone to make it more 3D

adding the hair, eyes and beard 

retouch the hair part because the previous one look a bit messy

adding more beard and retouch the color of it

adding the neck and the cloth

change the background

Trace out the outline of the face

pick the color and paint the face according the reference

 adding eyes and add more value to the skin

retouch the eyes area (add shadow ),and put more highlight to the nose

adding hair and beard

paint the shirt

adding more detail to the face 

add a simple dark background
